About PyData Tanzania
We're the volunteers behind Tanzania's Python and data-science scene. Since 2019 we've run PyCon Tanzania, free DjangoGirls workshops and PyData meetups — and hosted DjangoCon Africa twice. PyData Tanzania 2026 is our biggest gathering yet.
Our mission
Python Tanzania is the home of the Python community in Tanzania. Our goal is to empower developers, data scientists and technologists across Tanzania and East Africa — and to make sure the people building with data look like the communities the data is about.
Our history
We grew from informal meetups and DjangoGirls workshops in Dar es Salaam. The first PyCon Tanzania was held in 2019; along the way we hosted DjangoCon Africa in Zanzibar (2023) and Arusha (2025). PyData Tanzania carries that momentum into the data-science era.
What we work with
Building, tuning and honestly evaluating models with scikit-learn — from a first baseline to something worth trusting.
Wrangling real, messy data with pandas and NumPy, then making it legible with Matplotlib and Plotly.
Neural nets, NLP and LLMs with PyTorch and Hugging Face — and where they genuinely fit African problems.
Moving data at scale with Polars, DuckDB and Airflow, so the analysis rests on something solid.
